About

Ipsum dolorum est – only kidding!

Callisto became involved in the arts through a process of natural infusion that had nothing to do with a career pathway or formal education.

Paper, pens and paint were abundant playthings when I was a child, and my grandad who was deeply called to creativity in his soul was always drawing, painting or making. Many of his tools now live in my own studio space. I cannot imagine him without a pen or pencil in his hand.

As luck would have it, far more than judgement, I moved to an arts area to begin teaching fresh out of university. I quickly transitioned to translation work which afforded me the time to explore creative writing, the making of art books and 3D objects. Drawn more to performance art, I spent some years living in an arts village amongst the first and second generations of modern performance artists at an interesting juncture for art in China.

My personal interests brought me to temples, to medicine, to religion, whilst my post grad research focussed on philosophy. Throughout this time, my creations and records of them lived in boxes and quietly followed me from place to place. Until I was separated from them through global events and had to fight almost insurmountable odds to be reunited with them. Shortly after that, I fell into working in the arts.
